They also accuse Delve of effectively signing off on its own reports instead of relying on a clearly separate, independent auditor.
Delve denies the accusations. The company told TechCrunch it doesn’t issue audit reports itself but provides an automation platform that collects compliance information and then exposes it to auditors chosen by the customer or selected from Delve’s network of third‑party firms. It says what critics call "fake evidence" are in fact standardised templates similar to those offered by rival tools. Insight Partners has not publicly commented on why it scrubbed its article.

On paper, AI-native compliance tools promise a dream scenario: faster certifications, fewer spreadsheets, fewer consultants. In reality, they sit on the fault line between three unforgiving forces: regulators, auditors and enterprise security teams. If the allegations against Delve are even partially accurate, they expose how fragile this new layer of automation can be.
The immediate losers are Delve, its customers and its investors. Any enterprise that leaned on automated templates that don’t match reality could find itself exposed in a real incident or regulatory investigation. The deeper issue is incentive design. Startups feel intense pressure to obtain security certifications quickly because large customers won’t even start procurement without them. Compliance platforms feel pressure to promise speed and automation to win those same customers. Auditors, often paid fixed fees, have little economic incentive to challenge the most efficient path. Add AI that can spit out plausible policies and records at scale, and the temptation to drift from "automation" toward "fabrication" is real.

Data protection authorities in the EU, the U.S. Federal Trade Commission and sectoral watchdogs (finance, healthcare) are all watching the AI tooling wave with growing interest.
