What the San Francisco startup claims with its π0.7 model is that robots are starting to show the same surprising, emergent behaviour that took language models from toys to infrastructure. If that’s true, the economics of robotics — and a lot of human work — are about to change. In this piece, we’ll unpack what was actually announced, why it matters far beyond one startup, and what it means for Europe’s factories, homes and regulators.

These are research results, not a deployed product; the team is explicit that the system cannot yet autonomously handle complex, multi‑step chores from a single high‑level command.
Per TechCrunch, Physical Intelligence has raised more than $1 billion so far and was last valued at $5.6 billion. It is reportedly in talks to nearly double that valuation to around $11 billion.
Why this matters
